Joe Montana, quarterback for the 49ers, once said, “If winning wasn’t important, people wouldn’t keep score. Like it or not, we live in a world that keeps score.”
Whether it’s in business or relationships, results are the measure of our success.
How many times have we said we’ll get something done only to let it slip from our mind minutes later.
It means nothing to say we will do something, in the end what matters is whether you get the job done or not. But is that really true?
For any task there are actually three possible outcomes
- Failure
- Success done wrong
- Success done right
Some of you might be asking yourself – what’s the difference between 2 & 3?
In both cases the job got done, isn’t that all that matters? And the answer is – no.
You can still fail even when getting the results. The key is the process.
Below are just a few of the things that can make even the best results seem worthless:
- lack of updates
- complain constantly
- ignore guidelines
- delays
- excuses
While I wholeheartedly believe that results are everything, what separates people are the little things.
In today’s world we not only want results, but results done right.

WOW! This post really makes sense. Good job!
For me, it’s better to fail as long as you did your best. Rather than winning and being successful for something you don’t really did right.
I love the thought! Joe Montana is so smart, and it’s obvious that you’re no slouch either Adrian. What you said, was all true. In life, we just don’t need to finish or accomplish something. We have to check if we did it right or wrong.
Appreciate the comment Sigfrid…it’s something that tends to get overlooked today. Just look at the subprime crisis and now the sovereign debt issue. We all want great results but sometimes go about them the wrong way.

Brief but meaningful article. It’s merely a fact and it’s all that we need. If you want to be successful, take these sensible thoughts with your journey.
