Life today is no picnic. We have so many things vying for our attention.
We have movies, MTV, the Internet, TV shows, amusement parks, facebook, chat, emails, work, friends, and family. Each year the list seems to get longer and longer.
Growing up life was simple, a few channels, and if you didn’t like what was on, tough!
But we made do. There were times when I was bored, but it just meant that I had to come up with something to do.
We don’t have that problem anymore. Today there is a smorgasbord of things to choose from.
But with so many choices we run into the problem of choosing something worthy of our time.
Movies used to be top on my list but the older I get the less time I seem to have.
I have things to do and places to be.
Sitting down for two hours of uninterrupted movie time is unheard of when you have a young child.
Instead my wife and I have turned our attention to things that we can fit into our hectic schedule.
We do facebook (easiest way to pass along info to friends and family), emails (for important matters), Youtube and TV.
Tonight I thought I’d take the time to share with you some of my favorite shows of all time.
- Seinfeld (best American comedy)
- Mr. Bean (silly but hilarious)
- Friends (hilarious)
- Glee (don’t knock it till you’ve seen it)
- SYTYCD (the only reality show I’m really into)
- Fawlty Towers (classic British humor)
- Wire in the Blood (very dark British thriller)
- IT Crowd (best new British comedy)
- True Blood (if you like vampires)
- Blackadder (best British comedy ever)
- 24 (the first 5 seasons – the best American thriller)
- House (best hospital drama)
- Luther (intense British thriller)
- Sherlock (the 2010 series)
- Sex and the City (best female comedy)
And here are a few more that I found enjoyable but I know they might not be everyone’s cup of tea.
- Castle (light entertaining detective show)
- Smallville (the first 5 seasons for any comicbook lovers out there)
- Inspector Morse (classic British detective)
- Messiah (intense British thriller)
- Prime Suspect (another classic British detective)
- Lost (clever thriller)
- Shark Tank (investment reality show)
- The Big Bang Theory (comedy about nerds, not sure I can explain it better than that)
- How I Met Your Mother (a comedy not to be missed)
I will admit that the British detective shows usually run between about an hour and a half long but as they were made for TV, I had to include them.
There are times after watching a movie or a show that I wish I could get my time back.
Thankfully, none of the shows above fall into that category.
So, if you’re looking for something to watch this Friday night, and don’t have the time to squeeze in a movie – give these a shot.
You’ll be glad you did.
