If someone were to ask me today what to invest their time learning, I’d have to go with effective time management strategies – No contest.
Look, I’ve spent a lot of time on this site creating a bunch of content… 522 articles to be precise. That’s a heck of a lot of time right there.
Unfortunately, not everyone who stumbles on this site has the time to go back and read every last article. That’s why it’s important for every blog to take the time to remind people just what’s available on your blog from time to time.
Heck, even I don’t remember everything I’ve written.
I was reminded of the importance of review just this morning so I’ll be dedicating a few blogs in the coming months to precisely this.
It’s ironic that I used the word “time” seven times in just the few sentences, because when I sat down to write this article I wanted to talk about one of my six pillars: time.
While I didn’t start out focusing on time, I did see the importance of acquiring effective time management strategies and over the years, I have written more than a few articles on the subject matter.
I have read numerous books on the topic and find myself with more than enough time to spend with my family, oversee my businesses and work on my dreams.
It’s also the reason why I’m putting on a time management seminar for a small group of people next month.
Time is just that important.
With time we can study. We can plan. We can relax. We can have fun. We can be with our loved ones. With time…we can achieve whatever we want.
Before we can learn how to master time management it’s important we understand where much of our time goes.
I call them the Big Three Time Killers.
We could also add TV to that list to make them the big 4.
I talked more about the first killer, in my article, the email trap.
The next step is understanding just how valuable our time really is.
Another way to understand the value of your time is simply calculate it. Yes, sit down with a pen, a piece of paper and a calculator and figure out just how much we earn per hour. Most professional people I know have never actually sat down to calculate how much their time is valued. The thing is, in today’s world, many of us have to work overtime or on weekends, and we’re not often paid for it. Another key component of doing this calculation is doing it AFTER TAX, it’s quite revealing.
In developing effective time management strategies we must also understand just how much time we really have to invest. Most of us make the mistake of thinking we have 24 hours a day to use at our discretion, this is actually a misunderstood myth in our industry, to understand why my article 24 hours a day. This will really make you see time in a new light.
Next we need to talk about the importance building better habits, it’s something that is obvious when applied, and yet most people seem to overlook this little gem.
So now we know what to watch out for, the importance of time, and the power of habits. Next, it’s important to focus on planning which brings me to the single, most effective, time management strategy there is.
I also have found that by learning from the experts, not the amateurs, I save myself a ton of time.
It’s also important that we set aside time for the unexpected. After all, things always pop up out of nowhere. This article alone should be must-read reading for anyone who says, “I’m so busy.”
If you’ve read this far, then I can tell you’re someone interested in developing effective time management strategies, so I would suggest reading the blog post that I talk about where I find the time to do everything.
While in my book, iSucceed, I talk about the importance of gratitude being the most important of all success principles, however, it’s not always the easiest to adopt.
Time management strategies, on the other hand, are simple and powerful. But more importantly, give us fast results.
Today “social media” is on everyone’s mind. There are thousands of articles, books, posts seminars and trainings available out there addressing this very topic. However, learning these techniques and strategies takes time, which is why I think one of the best investments we can make is to learn how to get more out of our time.
Moreover, effective time management strategies are evergreen and applies to every aspect of our lives making them the most powerful success tools out there.
